Best Ways to Celebrate Halloween  2026 in Chicago | Parades, Ghost Hunts & More

Chicago mixes big-city energy with neighborhoods that each feel quite distinct. The Loop carries the architectural landmarks and theaters, while areas such as Lincoln Park, Wicker Park and Pilsen bring their own mix of parks, galleries, music venues and local restaurants. The lakefront is never far away, and the Chicago River cuts directly through the downtown skyline. Music and live performance are a major part of the city’s identity too, from jazz and blues to alternative club scenes. By October, Halloween events show up in museums, theaters, parks and some of Chicago’s older venues.

1. Chicago Halloween Party Cruise | Pier Pressure® Black Pearl

The Chicago Halloween Party Cruise | Pier Pressure® Black Pearl takes place aboard the Spirit of Chicago Yacht on October 31, 2026, with boarding beginning in the evening at Navy Pier. The cruise is scheduled to run until around midnight and uses four decks, with two DJs performing across separate music areas while the boat travels on Lake Michigan.

Costumes are encouraged, with pirate-inspired looks fitting the Black Pearl theme particularly well. This is a 21+ event, so I’ve kept it informational rather than linking directly to the booking page.

2. MEMENTO MORI Halloween Gala

The MEMENTO MORI Halloween Gala returns to the International Museum of Surgical Science on Friday, October 30, from 7 PM to 11 PM. Now in its fifth year, the gala is also a fundraiser for the museum and makes full use of its historic lakeside mansion setting.

Dancing in the Hall of Immortals, spooky storytelling, tarot and palm readings, a photo booth and a silent auction are all part of the evening. Costumes are encouraged, while the museum’s galleries, antique medical objects and historic collections give the night a setting that already feels suited to Halloween.

3. Chicago Ghost Hunt Game: Stories of a Haunted City!

The Chicago Ghost Hunt Game: Stories of a Haunted City! turns the area around Lincoln Park Cultural Center into a self-guided supernatural puzzle trail. Available from September 1 through December 1, 2026, the game sends players across 10 locations within roughly a one-mile area using only a smartphone.

A typical play-through lasts around 90 minutes, with clues and puzzles gradually revealing the story behind the ghosts hidden along the route. It can be played at your own pace, is available in four languages and welcomes all ages, although children under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult.

4. Annual Nocturna All Hallows’ Eve Ball

The Annual Nocturna All Hallows’ Eve Ball lands at Metro Chicago on October 31, 2026, beginning at 10 PM. DJ Scary Lady Sarah leads the music with a mix of goth, darkwave, industrial, post-punk, deathrock, new wave and EBM, continuing a Nocturna series that has been running since 1988.

The Halloween edition adds a large costume contest, a decorated venue, live photography and themed vendors. Entry is restricted to ages 18 and over.

5. 5th Annual South Loop Halloween Crawl

The 5th Annual South Loop Halloween Crawl begins at Jerk Villa in Chicago’s South Loop on Saturday, October 31, 2026, with the main crawl running from noon until 8 PM. The format moves across multiple participating venues, with DJs, costumes and separate assigned routes for attendees.

Costumes are mandatory, and an additional afterparty is scheduled after the main crawl. Since this is a 21+ bar crawl built around participating bars and drink specials, I’ve kept this entry neutral and unlinked.
