Honey Mahogany Juanita More, & Sister Roma on the Anti Drag & Trans bills

Details

There is an assault against trans rights and drag queens in this country. What's going on and what can we do to fight back? Leaders discuss.
Across the country and especially in states like Oklahoma and Tennessee lawmakers are pressing for and passing laws to restricting drag performances in public. Nine states are currently working on similar measures. In 2022 there 155 anti-trans laws passed in states as well.
The onslaught of attacks is unprecedented but it's also confusing.
What is happening and where?
What are these laws?
What are they restricting?
Why now?
What will the effect of these laws be and what can we do to fight against them?
What organizations should we support and amplify?
Three Bay Area Queer Leaders - Honey Mahogany, Juanita More, and Sister Roma are coming to Manny's to discuss all of the above, to answer your questions, and to get you fired up to help fight back.
100% of the proceeds of this event will go directly to Drag Story Hour in Tennessee, Kentucky, and North Carolina.
We will be partnering with The Academy on this event as well.

About Honey Mahogany:
In her youth, Honey was part of San Francisco's thriving Nightlife scene, and in 2013 Honey became the first San Franciscan to compete in the Emmy Award-winning tv series RuPaul's Drag Race. An outspoken gender equity and LGBTQ rights advocate, Honey has served as President of the Harvey Milk LGBTQ Democratic Club, on the Executive Board of the Alice B Toklas LGBTQ Democratic Club, and is a co-founder of the Transgender Cultural District. As an owner of The Stud, San Francisco's oldest gay bar, Honey has practical experience as a small business owner in SOMA that she has used to fight for small businesses all over the City.
Honey served as a Legislative Aide and then Chief of Staff to Supervisor Matt Haney, where she led the office's efforts to build housing. Voters overwhelmingly elected her in March of 2020 to represent San Francisco as a member of the San Francisco Democratic County Central Committee. In 2021, Honey was elected as Chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party, making her the first Black Chair of the party in San Francisco's history and the first transgender person to serve as Chair of any local Democratic Party, and one of the highest ranking transgender officials in the country.
About Juanita More:
Juanita MORE! is a denizen of the limelight. For almost three decades, the laudable hostess has blitzed San Francisco with high glamour, drag irreverence, and danceable beats that have illuminated the entire city. MORE! continues to be a heaping dollop of generosity and a sprinkle of nerve. She inspires those around her to make positive differences in their lives and communities — and doing it all with timeless elegance and an innovative spirit. Most recently, after her reign, Miss MORE! holds the title of Absolute Empress 56 of the Imperial Council of San Francisco –– one of the oldest non-profit organizations globally.
To date, MORE! has helped raise over 1 million dollars for local charities — among them GBLT Historical Society & Archives, Our Trans Youth, Q Foundation, Queer Lifespace, Transgender Law Center, and more. In addition, MORE! tirelessly fundraises for organizations in San Francisco that are adamant about helping communities in the seven-by-seven thrive, all while shining light and offering support to those who’ve been overlooked for far too long.
MORE! embodies what it means to be a conduit of connection. MORE!’ brings the people together to fundraise, celebrate community, and demand social change around San Francisco and elsewhere. Her culinary expressions are an extension of what mothers have been doing in their kitchens for generations — which, simply states, is sharing “loads of love.”
About Sister Roma:
Roma is recognized around the globe as an activist, fundraiser, public speaker, Master of Ceremonies, and glamorous clown. Since taking her vows she has been on the front lines in the war against HIV and AIDS as an educator, activist and fundraiser helping to raise over $1 million for the LGBTQ global community. Sister Roma is the creator and advocate of the Sisters’ Stop The Violence Campaign and most recently she gained international attention as the drag queen who took on Facebook and won - creating the #MyNameIs movement in protest of Facebook's “Real” Name Policy fighting for the right of everyone to self-identify on the world’s largest social networking platform.
One of San Francisco’s most adored personalities, Roma was elected SF Pride Community Grand Marshal in 2012, SF’s Most Notable Drag Queen and Best of the Bay’s BEST ACTIVIST in 2016. Her colorful (and sometimes off-color) humor has found her serving as Master of Ceremonies on the main stages of SF Pride, Folsom Street Fair, Castro Street Fair, and Easter in the Park where she hosts the infamous Hunky Jesus Contest. Roma travels the U.S. speaking at rallies and hosting events from coast to coast. Internationally Roma has hosted events in Berlin, Vienna, Paris and was an honored guest of Pride in Shanghai, China, and Grand Marshal of Prague Pride in the Czech Republic.
For almost 20 years Roma has worked in the adult industry and currently serves as Art Director for NakedSword/Falcon Studios Group. Her sharp wit and stunning beauty make her the perfect host of NakedSword’s Tim & Roma show, as well as a regular fixture hosting adult industry events and red carpets from the Cybersocket Awards and GAYVNs in Los Angeles to Chicago’s Grabby Awards.
