About this Event
York: Women, Witches & Warriors Ghost Walk — Part I
Selected Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 7:30PM
When the bells hush and the streets begin to shimmer, the women of York rise.
Come walk with them.
Led by storyteller and performer Sasha Elizabeth Parker, Women, Witches & Warriors is an intimate, one-woman immersive ghost walk through the shadowed lanes, ancient walls and golden-lit corners of York.
Part theatre.
Part history.
Part ghost story.
Part whispered secret.
Here, truth and myth dance closely together.
This is not a tour.
This is an encounter.
Meet the women who shaped York — through power, passion, defiance, devotion and, sometimes, death.
✨ Cartimandua, the Celtic queen who kept the peace — until love turned to war.
✨ Julia Domna, Roman empress, political force and architect of her own destiny.
✨ The Ivory Bangle Lady, whose ancient resting place still speaks across the centuries.
✨ Lady Isabel German, who chose a life enclosed in faith.
✨ Minerva, goddess of wisdom and drama — whose presence lingers where she is remembered… or forgotten.
✨ Mary Jane Sutherland, whose voice emerges from York’s former red-light district — a woman history tried to silence.
✨ Josephine Butler, the formidable reformer who fought fiercely for women’s rights over their own bodies.
✨ Sarah Coggles and Victoria Bage, whose more recent lives leave their own echoes in the city.
✨ Jennet Preston, condemned as a witch — and leaving you to decide where truth ends and superstition begins.
✨ Margaret Clitherow, York’s martyr, whose choice still carries weight centuries later.
✨ Anne Lister — Gentleman Jack — who loved, lived and wrote unapologetically.
✨ Mary Ellen Best, the artist who found beauty in the quietest corners of life — even on rain-soaked days.
Each step is a thread.
Each woman, a story.
Each story, a mirror.
