Its oldest stones bear witness to unexplained disappearances, repeated desertions of the village, and the mysterious death of Thomas Pipe, a local farmhand accused of shapeshifting and demonic possession in 1520. Dragged inside by a fearful mob, he died after unleashing a curse on Stanton Low — a curse that history seems unable to shake.
