A Halloween night to thrill: dance, connect, and support Pleasure Seekers, a doc by Samantha Berlanga on women’s sexual agency.About this Event

What does Pleasure mean to you?
This halloween we invite you for a night of unapologetic pleasure. With dancing, raffles and more, this event is centered around creating a space that embraces pleasure, sex positivity and women’s health unequivocally.
About the Event
Hosted by Samantha Berlanga, a local filmmaker and organizer directing her first feature length documentary, Pleasure Seekers. The film follows three women navigating choices around their sexuality. It is in early production and in need of funds to help pay our committed team of artists, filmmakers, and cultural workers. We are interested in curating spaces that bring communities of women, trans, queer and BIPOC together. Our hope is to have fun, dance and share comprehensive sex educational resources. Sponsored by the Bay Area Video Coalition a portion of the proceeds will go to supporting their artist development programs.
Why support?
NOW IS THE TIME TO SUPPORT THE ARTS. The current federal administration is erasing, censoring and criminalizing our stories. Taking away funding and support for independent artists to share underrepresented narratives. We know that when community shows up for each other, we can accomplish anything. We believe in this story because it spotlights the taboo conversations and questions we all have about our bodies. It opens up conversations to talk about consent, comprehensive sex education and of course, pleasure. Finding intersectional and intergenerational perspectives on the rich tapestry of sexuality, this film reverberates social commentary on purity culture, violence against women, stigma and shame revolving around sexuality through the characters, capturing a specific time in a woman's life where she is grappling with her identity. While the structures relied on for safety fail us and an uprising of fascism globally returns to the world, how can we feel joy and pleasure when these systems are so against us? Friendship and community continue to prevail as our safety. In these spaces we find joy. So this event is all about bringing community together.
