It's a new month and a new Midnight Movie @ 8 at Ten10 Brewing, where we bring the best in cult cinema, beer, and food at a much more reasonable hour. This month we are celebrating the most wonderful time of the year, Halloween, as well as the 1 year anniversary of Midnight Movies @ 8! Naturally, we're doing it just as we did last year by kicking things off an hour earlier than usual, at 7:00, with a double feature. Our first frightenig film comes straight from the brain of HP Lovecraft and translated to the screen by legendary director Stuart Gordon: 1985's 'Re-Animator.' After a horrific experiment goes terribly wrong in Switzerland, a disgraced yet brilliant med student, Herbert West, arrives at Arkham, Mass's Miskatonic University to continue his vile experiments of reanimating dead tissue. After bringing various animals back to "life," he sets his sights on larger subjects: humans. As he goes further down the rabbit hole, the people around the mad genius soon realize that sometimes the dead, and Dr. West, are best left alone.
I hope you like the colors red and blue, because the 2nd movie in our double-feature is 'Friday the 13th Part 3' as it was meant to be seen, in all of its 3-Dimensional glory. Released in 1982 and directed by Steve Miner ('F13 Part2,' 'House,' 'Soul Man,' 'Halloween: H20') the film centers around a group of young people vacationing at Higgins Haven, a house located on the infamous Crystal Lake. In spite of the warnings of a crazed local and run-ins with a biker gang, the group settles down in their vacation spot, unaware of the fact a certain machette-weilding maniac with a large body count named Jason Voorhees is there, recovering from the events of the previous film and looking for something new to hide his disfigured face behind. Not only does the film follow the big 3-D craze of the early 80's and gifts us with the illusion of various objects flying at our faces (snakes, yo-yos, baseball bats, eyeballs, etc), but it also introduces Jason to his preffered mask of choice that we all know and love, courtesy of one of the most irritating try-hards put on screen, Shelly Finkelstein. Seriously, f@#& Shelly.
'Re-Animator' will start rolling at around 7:15 and 'Friday the 13th 3' will be begin promptly at 9:00. 3-D glasses will be provided and both films are rated R, in case you want to bring the kids and need to make an informed decision. As is the standard, admission is free and Ten10's full beer and food menus will be available, so come thirsty, hungry, and ready to try out some fantastic seasonal offerings. There may even be some treats! Come celebrate Halloween with us Saturday, October 19th!
