In October we begin our symbols of the soul celebration and end with the festivities of Dia De Los Muertos on November 1st at Honshin Fine art in Tlaquepaque. As a symbolist painter Honshin is inspired by this holiday and he created the series titled “Honoring the Ancestors” in original linoblock and pen and ink drawings. Honshins interpretation is that the ancestors are happy to be remembered and they are telling us to “ Practice Love and Kindness Before It’s Too Late!”The symbols of the soul come from ancient time to the present. Who are the ancestors and how do they connect to the symbols of the soul? The ancestors are every bit of life that has ever been on this planet, from the one celled organisms to us, the living awareness of the process of who we are.
Celebrating ancestor’s is practiced around the world and is connected to symbols. That’s where art and poetry are coming from, all that soul stuff and symbols that we inherit. Our world is changing and with this we see the emergence of all kinds of symbols, and we are celebrating it as it is expressed in nature, art and science for the month of October.
