Brand new tales await as we dig deeper into Lancastrian folklore and unearth hidden horrors!
Delve into Lancastrian legends as you immerse yourself in the supernatural beliefs and rituals of the past in this two-hour walking tour.
This tour will take you through the dark corridors of Hoghton Tower, through a warren of Underground Passages and into the restricted, previously inaccessible East Wing – the most haunted part of Hoghton Tower that has never been opened to the public.
Do you know why your ancestors feared fairies?
Who attempted to use forbidden necromancy to raise the dead?
Which local roads are haunted by evil spirits?
A recent resurgence of interest in traditional beliefs and customs, coupled with morbid curiosities and our superstitious past have led to a melting pot of ideas.
Join us as we explore a collection of frightful damnable tales and folklore, unearthing the obsessions of our ancestors, and how deep rooted fears still saturate the Lancastrian soil.
Important Information
Age Restrictions
The tour is not suitable for anyone under 12. All participants under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Comfort & Access
The Tower will be extremely cold this time of year and this adds to the ghostly experience of the tour. Please ensure that you are wearing sufficiently warm, outdoor clothing and comfortable shoes, suitable for walking on uneven, historic surfaces.
The starting point for the tour is accessed either via two flights of stone steps without a handrail or, alternatively, a single flight of narrower stones steps with a handrail. The tour itself involves a number of flights of stairs and different historic, sometimes, uneven and damp floor surfaces. The stairs include those into the underground passages and some are without handrails. For more information, please refer to the Facilities and Access page on our website.
