Chicago for Chicagoans is excited to celebrate our 9th-annual 2-hour walking tour of Edgewater, in collaboration with lifelong Chicagoan Sam Prestigiacomo! Sam brings her love of ornate Victorian architecture and all things mysterious or surreal to the tour, unearthing some of Edgewater's strangest, darkest history.
Beginning at the former Epworth United Methodist Church (5253 N Kenmore Ave), the tour will cover Edgewater's rich history, architecture, and landmarks-- from its early days as a lakefront enclave for the city's elite, to its brief role as a hotspot for automobile showrooms, to its long-lost namesake hotel and contemporary importance to queer and immigrant communities. The afternoon will end with a meal at Moody's Pub, renowned for its burgers, beer garden, and 1960s vibe. Come learn something new about your place in space!
Chicago for Chicagoans happily exists as a "pay-what-you-can" tour service. A suggested tip of $10-20 per person is always appreciated, but reviewing us on Yelp, liking us on Facebook, spreading the word, and attending future tours tells us how much you love us too! We are a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit that creates inclusive walking tours by & for Chicago residents, designed to represent the histories of all Chicagoans.
