Democracy’s looking a little dead. Join Grassroots Comedy and Democracy Renewal Group for a Halloween night of laughs and civic resurrection
About this Event*Happy hour: 7:30pm
*Show: 8:30pm
American democracy has been looking a little… cadaverous lately. Trust in institutions is tanking, political violence is rising, basic democratic norms are being tested, and apparently accepting the results of an election is now more of a personal preference than a rule. The pulse is faint. The body is cold. But we’re not calling time of death just yet.
Grassroots Comedy has seen enough. This Halloween season, we’re gathering some of the Mid Atlantic's funniest comedians for Comedy Show for Raising Democracy from the Dead - a night of laughs, costumes, cocktails, and civic resurrection. Come early for a happy hour featuring thematic cocktails from Hustle Hut, and come dressed on the theme of “bringing democracy back from the dead” for a costume contest and prize for the night’s best look.
This show benefits Democracy Renewal Group, a community of global democracy and peacebuilding specialists using their experience and expertise to protect and strengthen U.S. democracy for all. DRG brings together experts who have spent their careers supporting democracy and peacebuilding around the world and are now putting that experience to work here at home- strengthening civic capacity, supporting pro-democracy efforts, and building networks for democratic resilience.
So throw on a costume, grab a drink, and come laugh with us. There’ll be a prize for the costume that best brings democracy back from the dead, and hopefully, by the end of the night democracy won’t be the only thing showing signs of life.
