George A. Romero's 1968 classic Night of the Living Dead follows Ben, Barbra, and a group of strangers trapped inside an isolated farmhouse as the dead begin to rise outside. With the undead closing in, survival should be simple: stick together, stay calm, and figure out how to make it through the night.
But the real danger may be what's happening inside.
As fear takes over, the survivors find themselves divided by power, distrust, and competing ideas about who should be in control. At the center is Ben, played by Duane Jones, whose intelligent, commanding performance makes him one of the most memorable protagonists in horror history.
Released during a period of intense racial and political upheaval in America, Night of the Living Dead carries a cultural weight that reaches far beyond its horror premise.
