ABOUT THE DIALOGUE
The Prophetic Tradition in the Time of Neo Fascism featuring Dr. Cornel West
Sunday, May 28th, 2023, 11am PST at the Rainier Arts Center, located 3515 S. Alaska St, Seattle, WA 98118, Valley and Mountain Fellowship welcomes Dr. Cornel West, Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary and is considered one of the greatest public intellectuals our time. This is a joint service with Innovation Vitality Team of the Greater Northwest Area of The United Methodist Church and Kingdom Family Worship Center International—an open and affirming Black Pentecostal congregation.
Dr. West ‘s visit is part of the ‘Set Us Free from Fear series’. To combat the ever- growing white Christian Nationalist movement, Valley and Mountain Fellowship’s Center for Faith, Art, and Justice has partnered with the Innovation Vitality Team of the Pacific Northwest Conference of the United Methodist Church. In addition to the expertise of Valley and Mountain pastoral staff, we have invited scholars and activists to share their wisdom. Our past speakers include Rev. Dr. Obery Hendrick, Visiting Professor of Religion, Columbia University, Dr. Anthea Butler, Geraldine R. Segal Professor in American Social Thought and Chair of Religious Studies, University of Pennsylvania, Rev. Dr. Edward Donalson, III, Assistant Clinical Professor and Director of Doctoral Ministry, Seattle University, School of Theology and Ministry, and noted Palestinian American activist Linda Sarsour have provided our community with a keen insight into current political climate and its religious implications. Soon, Ash-Lee Henderson and Rev. Allyn Maxfield-Steele, Co-Directors, Highlander Research and Education Center will present a Zoom workshop on ways to combat white supremacy organizing in rural communities and congregations.

ABOUT DR. CORNEL WEST
Dr. Cornel West, affectionately known to many as Brother West, is the Dietrich Bonhoeffer Chair at Union Theological Seminary. Dr. West is the former Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy at Harvard University and Professor Emeritus at Princeton University. Cornel West graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard in three years and obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy at Princeton.
