“Confusion now hath made his masterpiece."Were these words ever truer than when we have our way?
It’s October, you know what that means! It’s time for Macbeth!
Of course we will do it the way we always do, with a minimum of preparation and with some booze aka Shakespeare RAW.
How does it work? I'm glad you asked.
A group of actors arrive the day of the show having read (I sincerely hope, but lets be real) the script so they are at least passingly familiar with the text. Then, they pull a character name from a bucket to learn who they will be playing that night. They then have approximately 10 minutes to get into character (read: grab a drink) and get ready for their first scene. And the next one. And the one after that. You get the idea.
"But I'm not familiar with the play" you say, well, here's the gist:
Macbeth tells the story of a brave Scottish general who receives a prophecy from a trio of witches that one day he will become King of Scotland. Consumed by ambition and spurred to action by his wife, he murders King Duncan and takes the throne for himself. He is then wracked with guilt and paranoia, and he soon becomes a tyrannical ruler as he is forced to commit more and more murders to protect himself from enmity and suspicion. The bloodbath and consequent civil war swiftly take MacB and his wife into the realms of arrogance, madness, and death.
And we're going to make it fun.
You'll have three opportunities to catch this spectacle, October 13th, 14th and 15th all at 7:30pm. Doors officially open at 7pm.
The location? Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. Yeah, the one that looks like a castle. We're doing Shakespeare in a CASTLE!!! A castle with plenty of on-street parking. When there isn’t a concert nearby…or a Bucks game…
Cost is $10 at the door or $5 if you're in a Halloween costume. Hey! Another excuse to dress as a sexy nurse, or a sexy vampire, or sexy Friedrich Nietzsche, whatever your kick is; either way you'll have an extra 5 bucks to spend at the bar.
And now that all the necessaries have been stated,
"I go, and it is done. The bell invites me.
Hear it not, Duncan, for it is a knell
That summons thee to heaven or to hell."
