Riding Home for Christmas - DAY 5 - Twickenham to Flat Iron Square, London

The Christmas tree is back to continue its global adventures with another 'serious' challenge, and this time we'd love for you to take part!

For five days leading up to Christmas on 18th-22nd December, Ed Jackson and his trusty companion Ross will take on more than 500km of synchronised pedalling from Lands End to London, on a tandem bicycle and 'sleigh', towing their old pal the Christmas tree; all to raise vital funds for The Millimetres 2 Mountains Foundation.

You might know 'Ed the mountaineer' but 'Ed the cyclist' isn't yet so familiar. This will be Ed's first ever multi-day, long distance bike ride... A genuine challenge and you are invited to ride alongside them.

DAY 5 - FRIDAY 22ND DECEMBER 2023

Time for the final stretch... Ed and Ross will be covering some serious ground on their last day, starting their ride from Salisbury before sunrise. They will cycle around 125 km before reaching the bright lights of Twickenham Stadium, where they would love for you to meet them there with bells on, to jump on your bikes and join them for the final 20 km push into London.

• Distance: 20 km /13 miles (approx)
• Elevation: 200 ft (approx)
• Descent: 225 ft (approx)
• Start location: Twickenham Stadium
• Meet time: Afternoon - time TBC.
• Day finish location: Flat Iron Square, Southwark
• Estimated finish time: 4-6pm

End of ride

Arriving into London, you will roll into Flat Iron Square in London Bridge to a Millimetres 2 Mountains welcome party with DJ and well deserved beers under the arches. More info to follow on the closing event soon!

Who is this ride open to?

• Experienced road cyclists only
• You need to be used to riding in winter road conditions, with appropriate all-weather kit and equipment

What's included

• Support vehicle with emergency supplies
• Tea, coffee, cake, snacks and energy nutrition for pit stops
• Christmas cheer!

What's not included

The following items are essential for you to bring with you:

• GPS device for personal route navigation (fully charged with tracking on)
• Bike (road-worthy, serviced)
• Winter tyres (not slicks)
• Puncture repair kit, spare inner tube, brake pads
• Suitable kit for winter conditions e.g. padded thermal bibs, long sleeve jerseys, neck warmer, gloves, wind jackets, cycling rain jackets, overshoes, cycling glasses
• Helmet
• Bike lights (fully charged)
• Snacks for on the bike - high energy gels, bars etc.
• Sufficient water bottles
• Cash/card to pay for food & drink at ride finish and any stops along the way

Please be aware that you'll be responsible for:

• Personal safety - our team will be there to support you as much as possible but please come prepared.
• Navigation - we will do our best to keep riders together, however you are ultimately responsible for following the route provided.
• `Making sure your bike is up to scratch, with the ability to carry out basic spares/repairs maintenance
• Accommodation - if you sign up to ride for multiple days or plan to join from afar, you will need to organise your own place to stay.
• Transporting your bike - getting yourself to the start location and away from the finish.

To join the ride, sign up with a minimum donation of £50 per ride day. All proceeds will go to Millimetres 2 Mountains CIO and a guest charity.

Day 2 - Tuesday 19th Dec - Liskeard to Exeter - 100 km / 60 miles (approx)

Day 3 - Wednesday 20th Dec - Exeter to Burton Bradstock - 68 km / 42 miles (approx)

Day 4 - Thursday 21st Dec - Burton Bradstock to Salisbury - 124 km / 77 miles (approx)

Day 5 - Friday 22nd Dec - Salisbury to Flat Iron Square - 145 km / 90 miles (approx) *this leg will be open to join from Twickenham Stadium to Flat Iron Square - 20 km / 13 miles (approx)
