Pontefract Castle’s biggest classical event returns for 2024!
Join us for a magnificent evening of music and light as we proudly present the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra. Bring along friends and loved ones to listen to moving melodies as the sun goes down over the Castle.
Enjoy elegant Elgar, moving Mozart, and Saint-Saens' sensational Danse Macabre. Reminisce with spellbinding movie soundtracks.
Prepare to be transported on an orchestral odyssey!
The concert will end with a fantastic firework finale.
Concert starts at 7pm and ends at 10pm. Gates open 5.30pm.
Tickets:
Adults: £17 plus booking fee
Child (5-16y): £13.75 plus booking fee
Under 5s: free and no ticket required
Registered carers (Free) - free tickets must be obtained in person from the Castle gift shop. Proof of carer status required.

Please note tickets bought online are digital and that you will need to present your smartphone / tablets to show your downloaded tickets or e-mail on entry. You can also print your ticket out. The QR codes on all e-tickets will be scanned prior to entry.
Please ensure you have a valid ticket before arriving at the event. Tickets will not be available on the day.
A limited number of tickets will be available to buy in person from the Pontefract Castle Gift Shop from Wednesday 3 April.

Where is the event taking place?
The event will take place at Pontefract Castle, Castle Chain, Pontefract WF8 1QH.
What time does the event start?
Gates open from 5.30pm, concert starts at 7.30pm, concert finishes at approximately 10pm.

Do you offer Carer tickets?
Registered carers can obtain one free ticket when attending with a disabled person who has a full paid ticket. Free carer tickets must be acquired in person from the Castle Gift Shop, subject to availability. The carer can either bring proof of purchase of the disabled person's ticket to the shop, or purchase their ticket in the shop at the same time. Free carer tickets must be acquired in advance of the event.
Proof of eligibility will need to be provided which could include: Carers Card, An Access Card, National Carers and Disability Card, recent Attendance Allowance Letter (AA), Carers’ Allowance Letter of Award, Disability Living Allowance Letter (DLA), or Personal Independence Payments (PIP).
Is there an accessible area?
Yes, there will be a clearly marked out accessible area with a good view of the stage. This area will be easy to reach on level access paths. It will have extra space for wheelchairs and other mobility aids. It will be near to the toilets. When booking your tickets, there is an option to let us know whether anyone in your group would benefit from the accessible area.

Will the performance go on if it’s raining?
Yes. The concert will take place in all weathers and will only be cancelled in extreme weather conditions which mean that the event is unsafe. Please be prepared for the British weather!

Do you offer refunds?
No. Tickets are non-refundable. Please ensure that you are well enough to attend in any weather, before buying your ticket.
Are Refreshments Available?
There will be food and drink available to buy on the day, but you are welcome to bring a picnic including alcohol. No BBQ’s permitted. Please take home any litter.
Is it suitable for Children?
Yes, this event is suitable for any age. Children must be supervised throughout the event. Please do not bring any ball games.

Is there any seating?
No. Please bring your own low backed seats or rugs. Large umbrellas or tents are not allowed.
Is the event outdoors?
Yes. The event takes place outdoors on the main grassed area of the castle and will take place whatever the weather. Please note that large umbrellas or shelters are not allowed.

Can I bring my dog?
No. Assistance dogs only please. Please note that the event finishes with a firework finale and they must be comfortable with loud bangs.
Where can I park?
Please use town centre car parks. Please note that the castle carpark will be for blue badge holders only. We recommend that you don’t park in the Aldi carpark on South Baileygate, as charges may apply. I have a blue badge, where can I park?
Limited parking for blue badge holders is in the castle car park WF8 2JF, subject to availability. Passengers may be dropped off at the top of Spink lane but the road directly outside the castle gates will be closed for the event.
Can I smoke during the event?
No. Smoking or vaping is not allowed in the grounds of Pontefract Castle. A smoking area will be available outside the main gates.
Will there be an interval?
Yes, there will be an interval of around 20 minutes.
Can tickets be purchased on the Night?
Tickets will not be available on the night as we usually sell out several weeks before the event. Please get your tickets early!
Why is there a booking fee?
The booking fee is payable to Ticketsource to cover the costs of processing the bookings and payments. We do not benefit from this.
COVID-19: For your safety please observe social distancing and hygiene etiquette. You should not attend the event if you or anyone in your group are experiencing COVID symptoms. We are unable to offer refunds if you are unable to attend due to COVID related illness or self-isolation.
