We're proud to announce that we'll be producing One Man, Two Guvnors, written by Richard Bean, and directed by Nick Smith.Auditions will be held Monday 11th (7.30pm) and Wednesday 13th December (6.30pm) @ the Coolum Civic Centre 2-4 Park Street Coolum Beach.
It's 1963 and it's Brighton. Out of work musician and unsuccessful hard-man, Francis Henshall, has become separately employed by two guvnors – Roscoe Crabbe, working class gangster, and Stanley Stubbers, upper class twit. Francis tries to keep the two from meeting, so he can keep both jobs. But, complicating events, Roscoe is really his twin sister, Rachel, in disguise as Roscoe had been killed by Rachel’s boyfriend, none other than Stanley.
Complicating it further still is local mobster Charlie the Duck, who has arranged his daughter Pauline’s engagement to Roscoe despite her preference for over-the-top amateur actor Alan Dangle. Even further complications are prompted by several letters, a very heavy trunk, several unlucky audience "volunteers", an extremely elderly waiter and Francis’ pursuit of his two passions: Dolly (Charlie’s feminist bookkeeper) and food. Any food.....
Cast of Characters (all ages are approximate):
Francis Henshall: Slightly portly chap, loves food, beer and Dolly. Male, 30-40
Rachel/Roscoe Crabbe: Guvnor #1, Stanley's girlfriend, disguised as Roscoe, engaged to Pauline. Female, 25-30
Stanley Stubbers: Guvnor #2. Rachel's boyfriend, upper-class twit. Male, 25 - 35
Dolly: Charlie's bookeeper, feminist, voracious. Likes Francis. Female, 30s-40s
Charlie "The Duck" Clench: Local mobster, father of Pauline, marrying off his daughter for money. Male/female, 45-60
Pauline Clench: A bit dim, loves Alan, who loves her back, sadly engaged to Roscoe. Female, 20s
Alan Dangle: Amateur actor, earnest, loves Pauline and will prove it. Male 25-35
Harry Dangle: Crooked solicitor, loves Latin and father of Alan. Male/female 50-65
Lloyd Boateng: Charlie's friend, chef, ex-con, runs The Cricketers' Arms pub. Male/female 40+
Alfie: 87 year old, Gallipoli veteran, waiter, doddery. Wears a pacemaker. First day on job and accident prone - this is a physical role which would suit males 25+ who are physically fit and able to throw themselves around!
Gareth: Head waiter at the Cricketers' Arms and Alfie's boss. Male/female, 35-65.
Others as required: Possibly singers and musicians.
Rehearsals will be Monday nights 7.30pm – 10.00pm & Wednesday nights 6.30 – 9.30pm starting in January. There will be a round-table read-through before Christmas.
