9:00 a.m.
🥾 START TIME:
The gate opens at 9:00 a.m., and we will begin after everyone parks around *9:10am*
🥾 PARKING: Free parking is available at the Fort Caroline Visitor Center. You may also park at Spanish Pond trail entrance across street, but WE WILL START AT FORT CAROLINE with a 1-mile walk.
🥾 MEETUP SPOT: In front of the Fort Caroline visitor center entrance, beside the restrooms.
🥾 TRAIL DISTANCE:
* Fort Caroline: Approximately 1.2 miles
* Spanish Pond: Approximately 2.3 miles
* Total: Approximately *3.5 miles*
🥾 TRAIL TYPE: Historic site, natural trails and boardwalks.
🥾 TERRAIN: Mostly natural trails with exposed roots, uneven ground, stairs and a few small inclines. We will carefully cross Fort Caroline Road together to reach Spanish Pond trail entrance.
🥾 WHAT TO BRING: Water, snacks, sunscreen, bug spray and a lightweight rain jacket or poncho in case it rain.
🥾 WHAT TO WEAR: Comfortable, closed-toe hiking shoes with good traction. *Wear something orange, a Halloween hat or a comfortable costume!* Please avoid masks, long clothing or accessories that could block your vision or cause you to trip.
🥾 SPECIAL DETAILS: This will be an easy-paced, relaxed hike with several stops for pictures. We will stop at historic Fort Caroline, the waterfront pier and the Round Marsh Observation Platform.
📢 LOCATION CHANGE: After Gomez and I scouted Pumpkin Hill, we decided to move the hike to Spanish Pond because the directions were confusing and the mosquitoes were extremely heavy—even during cool, windy weather.
🥾 KID-FRIENDLY: Yes. Children must remain with a responsible adult.
🥾 PETS: Yes. Pets must remain on a leash no longer than six feet. Please clean up after your pet.
🥾 SMOKING: No smoking 🚭
🥾 PACE: Easy, relaxed pace with photo stops.
🥾 WEATHER: Partly sunny and breezy, with temperatures near 80°F and approximately a 30% chance of showers. Please check the weather again before leaving home.
