This Month's Book
As we enter spooky season, we'll be reading The Haunting of Hill House by one of the masters of gothic horror, Shirley Jackson. We join Eleanor as she joins supernatural investigation into the remote mansion, and experiences strange events. Is it the paranormal? Or is it all in her mind?
Jackson avoids the tropes and cheap jump-scares and focuses instead on the characters, giving us a rich picking of potential discussion points, such as identity and gender-roles, and creating a classic described as one of the finest horror novels by Stephen King and the "definitive haunted house story" by The Guardian.
Who we are
A friendly and inclusive book club held in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. Each month the members are asked for book suggestions on a certain theme, after which we take a vote and the winner is the next book read! We meet on Tuesdays once a month in a venue near the Central Train Station. This month we are going to The Town Wall. If you can't turn up exactly at 7 don't worry, you are welcome to join (and leave us) at whatever time suits you!
