Mindstream Players H.P. Lovecraft + “The Shadow” Live Radio Show

Join us in the PRS Lecture Room for a thrilling live radio performance courtesy of the Mindstream Players!

“The Shadow - Three Ghosts”: The Shadow was one of the most iconic characters from the Golden Age of Radio, and first aired in 1930 courtesy of writer Walter B. Gibson and magazine publishers Street & Smith. In this classic episode, a recently married woman is brought to madness while living in her husband's creepy manor. He is really a crook who has altered her Last Will and Testament for his benefit and is now trying to scare the new bride to death in order to gain the woman's estate. Can she survive? Not without The Shadow’s help! “The Three Ghosts” originally aired way back on Halloween night, October 31st, 1937!

“The Rats In The Walls” is an adaptation of H. P. Lovecraft’s horrific short story which he thought “too horrible for the tender sensibilities of a delicately nurtured publick.” Lovecraft’s concerns to the contrary, it was published in the March 1924 issue of the legendary WEIRD TALES MAGAZINE to great acclaim. RATS is a terrifying tale tailor made for radio. A wealthy American named Delapore returns to his family’s ancestral home in England called Exham

Priory. It’s a Gothic structure that is little more than a ruin and Delapore decides to restore it in honor of his son who died from wounds got from fighting in World War I, but is soon haunted by the terrible scratchings of hundreds of rats heard scurrying behind the walls. Trying to find the source of the vermin leads him deep into the ancient foundations of the Priory, and even deeper into his ancestors’ loathsome past.

Bios:

Tom Konkle (Director) is a seasoned actor, director, writer, and producer with a career spanning over two decades. He is well-known for his versatility in both comedic and dramatic roles, often playing characters ranging from sarcastic heroes to diabolical villains. His creative career includes starring in and co-writing the award-winning film Trouble Is My Business (2018), a neo-noir detective story that showcases his skills both in front of and behind the camera.

In addition to his work in film, Tom has a deep involvement in audio fiction. He contributed to successful podcasts such as Mindstream Players and Your Horror Show, where he blends his experience in horror and suspense into immersive storytelling. His live performances span decades, both on stage and in theater, further highlighting his dynamic range.

Tom has collaborated with renowned figures in the entertainment industry, including working alongside comedy legend John Cleese and acting with notable celebrities like Nick Nolte, Michael Palin, Vernon Wells, Julia Louis-Dreyfus and many others.

Additionally, Tom is the co-owner of Lumen Actus, a production company based in Burbank, CA, that specializes in integrated production and post-production.

Kurtis Bedford (Producer) is an actor, producer, designer, tinkerer, builder of things, teacher and all around swell guy. He has been acting professionally since the mid nineties and has been in dozens and dozens of television commercials as well as movie and television roles, most notably he played “Dennis Beardman” for three seasons on the show “Getting On” on HBO. His theater credits include the recent premier of "Power and Light" at Theatre 40, which was written by John Strysik. He did not play the part of Coleman Czito. As a designer he has worked extensively with West Coast Jewish Theater as well as the popular “Wicket Lit” productions of Unbound Productions. In 1993 he answered an ad in a newspaper and met Tom Konkle over a love of radio drama. During the Covid lockdowns he approached Tom about doing radio dramas over Zoom and from that Mindstream Players was born. He has big hands and wide feet. He was also once hired to dress as a clown and beat up a mime.

John Strysik was a staff director on the horror television series TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE. He also directed episodes of the syndicated MONSTERS and ABC Television’s reboot of the fantasy series LAND OF THE LOST. Besides television work, Strysik has written and directed the independent features SAM & SARAH and THE SPIRIT GALLERY and award winning short film adaptations of stories by H.P. STUCK was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness, won San Francisco Indiefest’s Staff Prize and Brussels International Festival of Fantasy Film’s Silver Raven. His first play VILLAINY about America’s first known serial killer Henry Howard Holmes, premiered at Whitefire Theatre in 2018, his second DEATH, WITH BENEFITS, a farce inspired by “The Killer Grannies of Santa Monica,” ran at Theatre 40 in Beverly Hills, as did his third play POWER & LIGHT about the titanic clash of genius between Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison as they battle to electrify the world.
