Maine, 2021. Three friends vanish into the woods to shoot a low-budget horror film. They never came out.

For years, the case lived only in whispers, online forums picking apart theories, some armchair detectives calling it an elaborate hoax.

Then, this spring, film maker Nick Noyes found a dusty VHS tape in the bargain bin of a Goodwill in Oregon, some twenty-three hundred miles from where the three friends disappeared. Just three words scrawled on it in fading marker: LIGHTS! CAMERA! SCREAM!

What’s on that tape might answer the question that’s haunted the internet for years. It just also asks a far worse one.
