Bats, owls, spiders, toads, and poison plants! Halloween is rooted in nature, so let's go on a spooky night hike to learn about it, oooohhh!About this Event
**LOCATION WILL BE EMAILED TWO DAYS BEFORE THE HIKE. It is in Griffith Park, Los Angeles.
This hike is adapted for Los Angeles from a night program I used to teach kids in Yosemite National Park! Think of it like the sleep away summer camp program you wish you'd been able to do as a kid.
Special Guest: Joey Curti, PhD, a UCLA post-doctoral bat biologist! We all get to look for and listen to bats in the SoCal wild, and learn more about the benefits and lore surrounding these very misunderstood creatures.
We'll also explore our local environment as the landscape shifts from day to sunset to night, with a special focus on the SPOOKY creatures of Halloween. Learning about poisonous night blooming flowers, owls, toads, spiders, and other nocturnal creatures. Hiking through some of Griffith Park's best bat and owl habitat, we'll also explore the ways in which our own eyes adjust (or don't) to darkness with a couple of fun games.
We will also avoid using headlamps or any other light source as much as possible to show us the way on this wide and mostly flat Griffith Park trail.
