Shrewsbury Pagan Grove: HALLOWEEN GATHERING!Thursday 30th October, 6:30pm, English Bridge Studios, SY2 6AD
Important Update: I have had to change the date for this from Wednesday 29th to Thursday 30th so that it doesn’t clash with another event at the studios.
Our Halloween Gathering is open to everyone, whether you have been to a meeting before or not. This will be a very special evening of celebration, exploring traditions old and new that express our connection with the dead and the Otherworld beyond our own, drawing on the history of Halloween as rooted in this land, and the generations that have come before us. This is no American import! Come and try carving a Jack o’ Lantern from a turnip or swede (it really isn’t as hard as you think!), partake in some weird and wonderful divination techniques, and please feel free to wear a mask or guise if you’d like to. There will be soul cakes and some other seasonal refreshments. You are invited to bring a memento, image or token, representing an ancestor, a lost loved one or an Otherworld spirit, to add to a shared votive shrine for the evening. I will also be leading a lantern-lit visit to the nearby Abbey graveyard, where you are welcome to share a thought, story, song, poem or memory as an offering to the dead. (All activities are optional) You won’t find another Halloween celebration quite like this one in Shrewsbury!
(This event is free to attend but if you feel able to contribute something to the cost of the hall space, then any donations are appreciated.)
