In this hands-on "Gourd-eous Creations" class, you'll learn professional techniques to transform ordinary pumpkins into extraordinary works of art. From basic design transfer to advanced carving and sculpting methods, our experienced instructor will guide you through every step. Discover tips for choosing the perfect pumpkin, safely using carving tools, and preserving your masterpiece for lasting enjoyment. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your skills, this class will equip you with the knowledge and confidence to create stunning, unique jack-o'-lanterns and decorative gourds for any occasion.
Upon completion of this "Gourd-eous Creations" class, participants will be able to:
* Select appropriate pumpkins: Identify key characteristics of a good carving pumpkin, considering size, shape, and surface quality.
* Utilize carving tools safely and effectively: Demonstrate proper handling and use of various pumpkin carving tools (e.g., saws, scoops, detail knives) to achieve desired cuts and textures.
* Apply design transfer techniques: Successfully transfer a chosen design onto the pumpkin surface using various methods.
* Execute basic and advanced carving techniques: Carve designs with varying levels of complexity, including cut-through, relief, and sculptural elements.
* Incorporate creative details: Add stylistic elements and intricate details to enhance the overall aesthetic of their carved pumpkin.
* Implement pumpkin preservation methods: Apply techniques to extend the lifespan of their carved pumpkin.
* Troubleshoot common carving challenges: Identify and address issues that may arise during the carving process.
* Develop a personal carving style: Experiment with different techniques and designs to cultivate a unique artistic approach to pumpkin carving.

Instructor: Moe Auger
Instructor Bio: Maurice (Moe) Auger, a resident of Alfred, Maine, has been professionally carving pumpkins for over 30 years. Moe was an Art instructor for 35 years and carved his first Giant pumpkin while teaching middle school art. Moe has carved all over New England and can be seen demonstrating his skills at various fairs and festivals from mid-September to the end of October. Each of Moe’s creations is one of a kind and is exceptionally inspired by the shape and size of the pumpkin being carved. Moe has created pieces for weddings, as well as other special events, and you can view his latest creations on Facebook and Instagram.
Open to all ages (under 18 must be accompanied by parent/guardian)
Class needs a minimum of 3 attendees to run.
Class available for up to 10 attendees.
Registration closes three (3) days before the event.
