About FIRESIDE

This October gather around the fire and let us remind you of what it was to be afraid of the dark.

Don’t build the fire too high, sing too loud or laugh too heartily, because he’s out there and he’s hungry. The award-winning circus company Nikki & JD in collaboration with Lost Dog create an outdoor show that combines circus, dance, theatre and live music to re-enact the original horror story- the one about the monster, and the monster’s mother, and the dragon and the hero and the severed limbs.

Dark, comic and physically dangerous this is a modern re-telling of that ancient epic, Beowulf.

Wendover based poet Will Burns will be leading guided literary walk to the event. Starting at Real Magic Books and travelling to Wendover Woods for the start of the Fireside event. If you would like to join the walk starting at 5pm, please book your place

Wendover Woods have activities on offer throughout the day and evening. A mini pumpkin patch will be positioned by the Information Point where visitors can pick up their perfect pumpkin and decorate. There is a Gruffalo Party trail l, a seasonal wolf trail and Go Ape is open and have the addition of Sundown sessions (venture along the treetops in the dark). Tickets can be purchased and booked through Go Ape's website.

6.00pm FIRESIDE performance (approximately 50 mins)

7.00pm Event ends.

If weather is unsuitable for the performance, we will alert people by email and social media. Please check your email ( including junk mail ) before you depart.

Suitable for all ALL

All children should be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Travelling to Wendover Woods

Please travel by sustainable means, E.g. cycling, walking, or via public transport, if possible. If traveling by car, please travel with others you know to decrease the number of cars making the journey and to lesson the impact on the local area and the planet.

Be prepared for an outdoor performance!

Please dress for the weather.

There will be very limited seating. Please bring portable chairs/ blankets.

Access Information

We welcome all Disabled people to the performance. The performance is family friendly, highly visual. comidic and includes fire.

• The performance will be held on grass. There is level access from the pathway to the performance site for wheelchair users.
• The audience will be guided from Wendover Woods Cafe through the woodland to the performance area. The pathway is accesible for wheelchair users
• Toilet facilities are located next to Wendover Woods café, 400 metres from the performance site.
• There is a viewing area for Disabled audience members. Please speak to a steward, when you arrive and we will direct you.

Fireside Stories is a celebration of Buckinghamshire's outstanding landscapes, spaces and places, Buckinghamshire Culture are presenting Nikki, JD & Lost Dog's Fireside in three locations across the county; Downley Common (Oct12), Buckingham Parish Church Grounds (Oct 28) and Wendover Woods (Oct 29 )

In each location, we are working with writers and storytellers, local groups, schools and organisations to bring to explore the themes of Beowulf.
