HELL WILL HOLD NO SURPRISES FOR THEM...
This DEVIL’S NIGHT (October 30th!), when the powers of darkness are at their height, NIGHTMARE ALLEY and DUMPSTER RACCOON CINEMA combine forces to summon one of cinema’s most elusive and powerful spirits – Ken Russell’s long-suppressed masterpiece, THE DEVILS!
A charismatic 17th-century French priest (Oliver Reed) becomes the target of a sexually obsessed nun’s (Vanessa Redgrave) witchcraft accusations, which corrupt church and state officials are all too happy to exploit – until the wild frenzy thereby unleashed grows out of control, threatening to consume all of the city in its flames.
The Holy Grail of Cult Films! It was mauled and mutilated by the censors and the Hollywood studio that made it. To find a bootleg version, in the highly suspicious independent video story I frequented while attending an all-boys Catholic high school, was a pivotal moment in my cinematic education. Ken Russell's (ALTERED STATES, LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM) profane and transgressive masterpiece is a stunningly beautiful and grotesque rallying cry against the establishment and the sexual repressed masses. – Steven Landry
One of Dumpster Raccoon’s most sought-after films is finally in our summoning circle! Ken Russell’s electro-trash aesthetic, frank horniness, and brazen fearlessness caused him to butt heads with his producers and distributors time and again, and none of his films fell afoul of small minds quite like THE DEVILS – his greatest masterpiece, suppressed for decades, FINALLY free of its prison! Don’t miss it – and catch Russell’s LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM one week prior at Dumpster Raccoon for the FULL KEN RUSSELL EXPERIENCE! – Anthony Oliveira
With video preshow, live performance, and cocktails by the Shameful Tiki Room! Sponsored by Bay Street Video!
