Explore the Eastern Coast of the Motherland together, immersing ourselves in heritage and embracing our stolen cultures on this luxury retreat.
This month-long tour includes round-trip economy airline tickets from JFK to Nairobi, entry to local attractions, private guided tours, activities, five-star accommodations, and meals during the retreat.
DAY 1 – Monday, 3rd April 2023
Flight to Nairobi
Meet with other participants as you are picked up from your location of choice within New York City limits. Departing for JFK around 2:30 pm for a 20-hour international #BlaxIt from New York City. Don’t worry about your entry visa into Kenya, we have already handled that for you just print up the visa before heading to JFK.
DAY 2 – Tuesday, 4th April 2023
Karibu Kenya Cocktail Party
Arriving in Nairobi around 9:00 PM; you will be picked up from the airport in a private vehicle to begin your escape from America to the motherland. Departing the airport get a glimpse of the most developed East African country; before arriving at your primary home in the capital city for the month. Get to unwind and meet with locals, and expats who will be exploring the country with you.

DAY 3 – Wednesday, 5th April 2023
Nairobi Shopping and Dinner Tour
On your first official day in, the Motherland, you can decide to join the networking event; a shopping excursion with locals, black expats, and tourists. Don’t worry if you decide to miss this event – it’s a weekly event, available every Wednesday during your stay. If you decide to join to window shop or get a head up on souvenir shopping you will enjoy the weekly trips to the famous Maasai Market for fabrics, home décor, statement jewelry, beautiful artwork, soapstone, limestone, leather sandals, and Kenyan branded apparel. Don’t worry about ever feeling ripped off, you will have the added benefit of having a Swahili-speaking local host with experience in negotiating prices. Need to take a break from shopping? Grab a coffee at the nearby ArtCaffe.
After an afternoon of shopping, we will head over to a local nyama choma spot for a buffet dinner. As Kenya’s unofficial national dish, nyama choma (barbecue meat) is the right end to your first full day in the country. Meet with other local, black expats and tourists as we dig in and eat with our fingers while listening to amazing music on a normal mid-week Nairobian evening. The meal is served with ugali, chips (french fries), plantains, kachumbari (a salad compromising tomatoes, onions, coriander, and lime), and drinks of choice. Don’t worry if you are vegan, order anything you prefer off the menu. Dinner includes a nyama choma buffet and two beverages.

DAY 4 – Thursday, 6th April 2023
Camping Trip to Kakamega Forest – Day 1
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their location of choice within the city’s limits. Departing the city center at approximately 5:30 am for a relaxing road trip to Kakamega with breakfast being served en route as restaurant stops for lunch and breakfast. Arriving in the forest for overnight camping around 7:00 pm.
Accommodation: Overnight luxury camping experience with a private tent (a sleeping bag, a cot, a headlamp, and a camping chair are included with your tent); indoor plumbing and hot showers are accessible.

DAY 5 – Friday, 7th April 2023
Kakamega Forest Hikes/Return to Nairobi
Waking early, we will enjoy a cooked meal from our private chef at the campsite, departing the camping site around 9:00 am to discover the various wildlife on a morning hike. In the afternoon we will return to the campsite to rest, relax and have lunch. Afterward, explore the forest on our second guided hike before heading back to the site to pack up. Leaving Kakamega Forest around 4:00 pm stopping for dinner. Guests will be dropped off within Nairobi’s city limits around 11:00 pm.

DAY 6 – Saturday, 8th April 2023
Free Day in Nairobi
Spend a day relaxing in or exploring independently, you have access to a car and a driver within Nairobi’s city limits at no cost. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner will be prepared at the penthouse by our private chef.

DAY 7 – Sunday, 9th April 2023
Nairobi National Park Safari
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their location of choice within the city’s limits for breakfast at ArtCaffe in Nairobi's busy city center. After breakfast, we will head to Nairobi National Park to meet with our wildlife guide and armed guard to possibly spot hyenas, lions, rhinos, cheetahs, antelopes, and buffalos as they lazily graze in the morning sun on a morning game drive.
Stopping around noon in the middle of the only national park in a major city. Lunch includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic, fruit salad, deviled eggs, club sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, veggies sandwiches, chapatis, potato salad, potato crisps, cookies, and cake.
Our safari continues with an afternoon game drive with our wildlife guide to possibly spot giraffes, zebras, and hippos, searching for the big five as they lazily relax in the tropical sun or hid in the shade.

DAY 8 – Monday, 10th April 2023 – EASTER MONDAY
Easter Monday Picnic in Ngong Hills
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their location of choice within the city’s limits for a picnic in Ngong Hills which is situated along the Great Rift Valley, southwest of Nairobi. Once at our destination, we will meet with the ziplining company in the park to begin our zipline through the hills with amazing and breathtaking views of the slopes.
Get to know other guests better on a picnic lunch in the middle of the park. Lunch includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic, fruit salad, deviled eggs, club sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, veggies sandwiches, chapatis, potato salad, potato crisps, cookies, and cake.

Breakfast, and lunch, will be prepared at the penthouse by our private chef; while dinner will be at a popular local nyama choma spot for a nyama choma feast with other locals, black expats, and tourists as we dig in and eat with our fingers while listening to amazing music on a normal mid-week Nairobian evening. The meal is served with ugali, chips (french fries), plantains, kachumbari (a salad compromising tomatoes, onions, coriander, and lime), and drinks of choice. Don’t worry if you are vegan, order anything you prefer off the menu. Dinner includes a nyama choma buffet and two beverages.

DAY 12 – Friday, 14th April 2023
Escape to Maasai Mara Getaway – Day 1
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their locations of choice within the city’s limits for a weekend safari. Departing the city center at approximately 6:30 am for a three-hour drive arriving at Narok Coffee House for breakfast along the way. Checking into our camp at 1:00 pm for lunch. After lunch and a short rest, we will begin our introduction to the wildlife in the Mara on an evening game drive, tracking the various animal species and birds that inhabit here until sunset.
Accommodation: Overnight Mara Kimana Camp with a private self-contained tent with toilet, bed, hot water, and electricity.

DAY 13 – Saturday, 15th April 2023
Masai Mara National Reserve – Day 2
After enjoying our last breakfast at the camp, we will depart for Narok Museum around 10:00 am. We will indulge in a private guided tour of the museum, which exhibits focus on Maasai cultural heritage, as well as other Maa-speaking cultures. Commencing our drive back to Nairobi with a stop at The Supreme Lounge for a late lunch. Arriving in Nairobi around 8:00 pm, where you will be dropped at your location of choice within the city limits.
Accommodation: Overnight Mara Kimana Camp with a private self-contained tent with toilet, bed, hot water, and electricity.

DAY 14 – Sunday, 16th April 2023
Drive to Nairobi – Day 3
After enjoying our last breakfast at the camp, we will depart for Narok Museum around 10:00 am. Maasai Ostrich Farm Tour
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their locations of choice within the city’s limits for an off-the-beaten-track adventure. Meet with our knowledgeable tour guide to explore the Maasai Ostrich Farm which supplies Kenya and overseas countries with ostrich meat, feathers, skins, and livestock since 1991. Learning about the giant-sized birds rearing from an egg to a fully grown ostrich. These ostriches have been trained and ridden for many years and you will get the opportunity to ride the birds before a luxury picnic on the grounds.
Get to know other guests on a picnic lunch in the middle of the farm. Lunch includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic, fruit salad, deviled eggs, club sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, veggies sandwiches, chapatis, potato salad, potato crisps, cookies, and cake. Before heading back to Nairobi take a dip in the pool that overlooks the ostrich field and take in Kenya’s “Dusty South”.

DAY 19 – Friday, 21st April 2023
Tsavo West National Park/Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary Game Drives – Day 1
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we will appreciate an early morning game drive when animals such as hunting dogs, lions, leopards, and cheetahs are active at Tsavo West National Park. After our safari, we will head back to the hotel to enjoy a quick lunch and check out of our rooms.
Meeting up at the safari vehicle we will head over to Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary for an afternoon games drive to the eater hole where some animals such as elephants, buffaloes, and zebras come to drink. The sanctuary has bushes and open woodland where you are likely to spot some cheetahs. The afternoon hours will allow us to catch a glimpse of elands, waterbucks, buffaloes, giraffes, and different species of birds. Returning to the resort to commence our safari back to Nairobi, stopping at Rubi Restaurant for dinner. Arriving in Nairobi after 3:00 am.

Fairview Coffee Estate Afternoon Tour
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their locations of choice within the city’s limits for a coffee excursion in Kiambu. Our knowledgeable guide to learning about the coffee-making process, starting from the seed to the coffee bushes, after tasting the various types of coffee on a coffee-tasting experience.
Get to know other guests on a picnic lunch on the edge of the farm. Lunch includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic, fruit salad, deviled eggs, club sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, veggies sandwiches, chapatis, potato salad, potato crisps, cookies, and cake. Before heading back to Nairobi shop for your favorite souvenirs or coffee roasts from Fairview Coffee Estate.

Escape to Naivasha Getaway – Day 1
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their locations of choice within the city’s limits for an overnight escape. Departing the city center at approximately 8:30 am for a two-and-a-half-hour drive arriving at Lake Naivasha around 11:00 am. At the park enjoy a boating safari to watch eagles feed and view hippos. Ending our first day in Naivasha with a picnic on the lake.

DAY 23 – Tuesday, 25th April 2023
Mount Longonot/Hell’s Gate National Park – Day 2
After enjoying breakfast at the resort, we will begin our final day in Naivasha with a hike up to the crater of Mount Longonot. This hike requires medium physical fitness – we will climb through the gulleys that dot the side of the mountain, stopping at designated places on the trek. Reaching the rim of the crater and looking into the awesomeness of the crater below.
At 1:00 pm we will depart for lunch at Hubei Restaurant on the way to Hell’s Gate National Park. After a filling lunch, we will leave for the park arriving at the gates by 3:30 pm for a biking safari. Vising the gorges inside the park.

Kochia Weekend Getaway – Day 1
Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their locations of choice within the city’s limits for an overnight escape. Departing the city center at approximately 5:30 am for a three-and-a-half-hour drive to our first stop, breakfast at Java House – Nakuru along the way. Arriving at Luanda Magere Stone at 1:30 pm. At the stone, we will listen to the folklore of the legendary mighty Luo warrior told by a local storyteller. Our visit to the stone ends with song and dance provided by local Luo performers who live in the area, celebrating Luanda Magere.

DAY 26 – Friday, 28th April 2023
Fred’s Kochia Permaculture Farm – Day 2
Departing Barracuda Resort after breakfast at approximately 10:00 am for a short drive to meet with Fred a local Permaculture Farmer. Fred will take us on a tour of his farm which he utilizes to teach villagers sustainable farming, introducing us to participants of his farming classes and their small farms. Fred will then take us on a walking tour to nearby farms doing similar work to him. We will then head on foot to the homestead of Mama Vicky who will prepare a traditional meal with ingredients from her shamba (farm). Heading back to Barracuda Hotel to relax or take a dip in the hotel’s pool.

DAY 27 – Saturday, 29th April 2023
Kochia Luo Village Walk – Day 3
Departing Barracuda Resort after breakfast at approximately 9:00 am for a short drive to the Homabay District village of Kochia; to take a village walk, meet the local villagers, play with the friendly children, and learn how these peaceful people live in the modern world with no electricity, running water, or indoor plumbing. We will then take another short drive to Golden Rays Resort for lunch on the scenic banks of Homabay. Heading back to Barracuda Resort to relax or take a dip in the hotel’s pool before heading out for dinner and dancing at Vanity Lounge in Homabay.

DAY 28 – Sunday, 30th April 2023
Drive to Nairobi – Day 4
After enjoying our last breakfast at the resort; departing at 8:00 am, for our private guided tour at Kisumu Impala Sanctuary branded as ‘a lakeshore walk with impalas’; but the animal sanctuary houses lions, African leopards, cape buffalos, olive baboons, hyenas, cheetahs, jackals, rescued grey parrots, fowls, tortoises and monkeys among others. Ending our visit with a glass-bottom boat ride on the shores of the second-largest freshwater lake in the world. Commencing our time in Kisumu with lunch at Dunga Beach on the banks of Lake Victoria. Arriving in Nairobi after 9:00 pm, where you will be dropped off at your location of choice within the city limits.

Meet with locals, black expats, and tourists as we pick them up from their location of choice within the city’s limits for a beach BBQ in nearby Ruiru. Get to know other guests better during the BBQ at the beach. Lunch includes alcoholic and non-alcoholic, cake, chapatis, fruit salad, hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled chicken, nyama choma, potato salad, and live music.
Take an intimate private boat ride on the manmade beach and head out on jet skis before or after enjoying the ambiance and food until the sun sets.

On your last day in the Motherland, we’ll start at the beginning; you decide to join the networking shopping event, explore the city, or relax at the penthouse one last time.
After an afternoon of your choice heads over to a popular local nyama choma spot for your last mid-week nyama choma break. Let the unofficial dish of the city be your last before heading to the airport for your twenty-hour flight back to New York City. After a full month of lifelong memories.
