Join us for an exclusive evening with Russell in the surroundings of Easter Road's Edinburgh ClubTarget Events in association with Hibernian FC and Easter Road Events, is delighted to be bringing the legend, Russell Latapy back to Edinburgh in June 2023! Few players in the recent history of Hibernian have written their names into Club folklore like the Trinidadian, whose swashbuckling style of play made him an absolute cult hero with the Easter Road faithful.
Russell had enjoyed a successful spell in Portuguese football, starting out with Academica, before joining Bobby Robson’s giants, FC Porto in 1994. A first team regular during his spell at the Estadio Dragao, he picked up back-to-back league titles, as well as becoming the first Trinidadian to play in the UEFA Champions League. Russell ended his spell in Portugal with Boavista, enjoying personal success in their UEFA Europa League campaign, before being part of their Portuguese Cup winning squad.
Alex McLeish brought Russell to Easter Road in the summer of 1998, with the Club in the then First Division. The immediate impact was clear and Russell ended up playing a massive part in the Club’s return to the Premier Division, culminating in him claiming for the divisional and Club player of the year awards in his debut season. He followed up the successful promotion campaign by helping to cement the Club’s place back in the top-flight, picking up his second Club player of the year award at the end of the 1999-2000 season, one particular highlight being a certain 6-2 demolition of Edinburgh’s other team…
In keeping with his Rock Star swagger, Russell’s time at Easter Road ended all too soon, but his mark was left indelibly on the Club and fans will be delighted to welcome him back to the Capital to reminisce over his time at Easter Road.
Thank to our relationship with Hibernian FC, Russell will be back at Easter Road in the exclusive surroundings of the Edinburgh Club on Saturday, 24th June 2023!
