THE 50th ANNUAL HARAMBEE FESTIVAL

“Harambee! A Global Celebration”
[Dallas, Texas, June 2024] Harambee is an East African Swahili word meaning “Let’s Pull Together” or Unity.
The festival is a community-based educational and cultural event that was created by the founding members of the Harambee Festival Steering Committee, a group of community minded citizens who gathered at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center to form an alternative celebration to Halloween. Their objective was to organize a celebration that would provide a positive, cultural experience for children, teens and adults.
The Dallas Harambee Festival has reached its 50th consecutive year of keeping the tradition alive! This year will be a true homecoming.
Since 1974, Harambee has been the oldest and largest African American cultural event in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex, with over 15,000 in attendance.
This year’s festival will proceed on October 29th, 2024 as planned Live and in person hosted by Harambee Dallas Steering Committee. Local Families and those from surrounding cities will still be able to receive for FREE Treat Bags, Care Packages located at 2922 MLK Blvd. Dallas, Texas 75215 starting at 10:30am until 5PM. There is an expectation numerous Community Partners, 50 Vendors, 100 Volunteers and over 1000 families to attend.
Every year we have been able to impact many generations. This year participants are welcomed to share the love during all online streaming with a schedule of live festivities during the in person festival as well. A list of events will soon be announced online and via local and national media outlets.
Our Main stage festival host is the incomparable Broadway actress Liz Mikel. We have a lineup of presenters and youth performers from around the world. This time around, with our Virtual Festival hosted by Sir Shefik and powered by Harlem Film House, with a live feed from Yonkers New York and a special guest appearance from Ghana. The Dallas Harambee Festival will reach past our annual attendance of over a thousand families, a hundred vendors and volunteers from across North Texas; but present our traditions and connect with others globally.
Majority of the population carry a mobile device and have a social media account. By acquiring a streaming platform such as Facebook or YouTube and the right promotional mix, the festival will reach well over millions, if not in one day, definitely over one month. Using cross promotions with sponsors, partners, performers, presenters and volunteers. What a great opportunity to reach over a million viewers across the country and around the globe; on a mobile format through social media, live streaming views, shares and downloads.
