114th Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade

The 114th annual Northern Lehigh Halloween Parade is at 6 p.m. Saturday. The rain date is Sunday.

The parade will begin at Victory Park, Washington Township, and proceed down Main Street in Slatington into Walnutport.

“For this year’s parade, we have some new entries including the Bethlehem Carriage Company and Cub Pack 57 from Neff’s, in addition to returning favorites, Emerald Dragon Karate, Anna’s Goblins, and Northern Lehigh field hockey just to name a few,” Northern Lehigh Events Committee representative Tiffany Rehrig-Schaeffer said.

“In addition to our judges who view the parade, we have added an additional set of judges this year who will be reviewing the entries prior to the start of the parade to get a better look at them,” she said. “There is so much time and creative energy that is put into the entries, we want to make sure that nothing gets overlooked in the judging process.”

Rehrig-Schaeffer said they will present first place ($200) and second place ($100) awards in the following categories: Large Float, Small Float, Large Group, Small Group.

In addition, she said first place ($100) and second place ($50) will be awarded to individuals.

“The grand prize is our Judges’ Award ($400), which is given to the entry with the highest overall score from any category,” Rehrig-Schaeffer said. “The Judges’ Award is presented in loving memory of Russ and Forrest Hallman.”

Rehrig-Schaeffer said there is plenty of work that goes into preparing the event.

“As soon as this parade is over, we take a short break and then we’ll be right back at it planning for next year’s parade,” she said. “We happily welcome anyone who is interested in joining us to plan next year’s event.”
