Austin’s identity is closely tied to live music, but the city has quite a few sides beyond its stages. Downtown mixes historic theaters, music venues and museums, while South Congress and East Austin bring independent shops, murals and local restaurants into the picture. Lady Bird Lake cuts right through the city, and places like Zilker Park make outdoor time unusually easy to combine with an urban trip. Austin is also known for barbecue, food trucks and a packed festival calendar. By October, that mix shifts naturally toward costume events, electronic-music festivals and horror-themed gatherings.
The Freaky Deaky Festival 2026 returns to Travis County Exposition Center on October 30 and 31, 2026. Gates open at 3 PM on both days, with music continuing until midnight. The electronic-music lineup includes ILLENIUM, SLANDER, Liquid Stranger, Disco Lines, Crankdat, SIDEPIECE, Odd Mob and Zingara, alongside a much larger supporting bill.
Halloween production is built into the festival rather than added as a side theme, with costumes and large-scale stage design forming part of the weekend. Admission is restricted to ages 18 and over.
The Daft Disko Halloween: Austin lands at The Outer Space at Inn Cahoots, 1221 E. 6th Street, on October 31, 2026, running from 7 PM until midnight. The concept is a French house and disco night inspired by music from Daft Punk, Justice, Stardust, Breakbot, Cassius, Giorgio Moroder, Chic, Kavinsky and other artists from the same orbit.
Costumes are encouraged, but the musical theme does most of the work here rather than a complicated Halloween storyline. The event is restricted to guests aged 21 and over.
The 10th Annual Spooky Halloween Silent Disco takes over The Pub at The Triangle, 815 West 47th Street, on October 31 from 10 PM to 2 AM. Each guest gets wireless headphones with three channels: Top 40 and dance music, 80s through 2000s throwbacks, and hip-hop and R&B.
Three DJs play simultaneously, and the headphones light up to show which channel each person has selected. Glow-in-the-dark gear is also included, while costumes are strongly encouraged. This one is 21+.
The Horror For The Holidays Expo 2026 arrives at Hilton Austin on November 21 and 22, 2026. Now in its 12th year, it began as a horror-themed shopping market and has grown into a weekend featuring vendors, film screenings, guest appearances, panels, craft classes and the Krampus Parade.
The 2026 guest lineup includes Heather Langenkamp, Lisa Wilcox, Kelli Maroney, Jonathan Breck, Brian Penikas and Marc Price. Unlike several of the Halloween-night entries above, this expo is open to all ages, with children 12 and under admitted free.
Frisky Business Burlesque – BOOty Bash takes place at Captain Quack’s Soundspace, 5326 Menchaca Road, on Saturday, September 26, 2026. Doors open at 7 PM, with the stage show beginning at 8 PM. The Halloween-themed production draws inspiration from classic movie monsters and creepy characters, with a varied cast of performers taking part throughout the evening.
Costumes are encouraged, with prizes for some of the best looks, and the evening also includes a Scream Queen contest.
